Order This Book OnlineI can’t remember when I’ve liked a book so much while spending most of it wanting to shake the main character. Olive Kitteridge is both that character and also the name of Elizabeth Strout’s new book. Olive Kitteridge stomps and clashes her way through every chapter of her life as teacher, wife, and mother, others around her mostly cringing or, in one searing scene, standing up to her. But it was little glimpses of redemption and Strout’s marvelous strip-tease of plot and character that spurred me through the pages, and found me flipping back through it afterward. I hope this book will win the National Book Award for which Olive Kitteridge is a finalist. It’s a dangerous read: if you pick it up, you won’t be putting it down.
