Edith Recommends: A Week in December, by Sebastian Faulks

The new novel of Sebastian Faulks is different from his previous, mostly historical novels (my favorite is “Birdsong“).
It is set in modern day London, it’s 2007, seven days just before Christmas. There are seven marvelously drawn characters, among them a young Muslim, ready to participate in a terrorist attack, and a tremendously rich hedge fund manager. It’s hard to make a choice which one is more hateful.
Satirical in tone, it’s a wonderful literary summary – among other acute contemporary issues – what happened in the financial world the past few years. Great book for book clubs.
