Jenn recommends The Naked Lady Who Stood on Her Head: A Psychiatrist’s Stories of His Most Bizarre Cases by Dr. Gary Small and Gigi Vorgan**
(Book is due out in October 2010)

Bizarre is absolutely the best word to describe the phenomena that Dr. Gary Small witnesses and experiences as a Psychiatrist. From the start, Dr. Small is thrown into a whirlwind of crying, screaming, slapping, nudity, and the list could continue on forever. His accounts of true cases are nothing less than jaw droppers. Cases such as the shrinking penis and mass hysteria and sure to shock you and egg you to read on. Also describing the hardships and prejudice of his profession from other doctors and from patients as well. The stigma of “seeing a shrink” is still a continuing battle we face today as being considered mentally insane, but Dr. Small shows us how important and powerful our minds are, and what they are capable of doing without our knowledge or recognition. Entertaining, shocking, and educational, Dr. Small’s stories are a fabulous read.

Gary Small, M.D., is the director of the UCLA Memory and Aging Research Center. He lectures extensively and regularly appears on national television shows, including 20/20, Good Morning America, Today, and on CNN. He lives in Los Angeles.

**Stay Tuned as we will be announcing an author event with Dr. Gary Small for the Fall shortly!
